In contrast to conventional devices our XUV spectrometer does not :it52*3=  
require a narrow entrance aperture but rather images the harmonic source ={y Mk  
directly onto the detector. Thus 80% or more of the incoming beam can be 6Pc3;X~

This configuration typically collects 15 to 25 times more light than $lmGMljF  
standard versions, resulting in a signal-to-noise figure improved by the hs< )<

In some experiments, this improved signal strength is the crucial step 9q;n@q:29

Our instruments are based on high quality aberration-corrected (;-< @~2  
flat-field gratings. In contrast to conventional gratings these focus $ \0)~cy  
all wavelengths onto a plane rather than a circle. This allows for [A99e`  
positioning the entire detector in the focal plane of the grating for 'B0= "7

The spectrometer is very compact and can be bolted directly to a vacuum V'y,{YpP

Through its modular design, our spectrometer can be adapted to a number 7jP C{W  
of configurations (source distance, spectral range, detectors, vacuum $/sIdFZi

The compact design of the spectrometer makes it inherently insensitive t_cNH@^3<3  
against mechanical and environmental disturbances (vibrations, AdV&w: ^yf  
acoustics, etc). No externally moving parts and closed-loop grating 4,kdP)Md$  
actuators with absolute position monitoring add to the robustness and AB92R/  
allow for monitoring of the grating alignment at all times. M-Gl".*f  
In addition, the concept of a spectrometer without entrance slit also dNd(57  
makes the instrument less sensitive to misalignment. Under typical ^ 'W<|  
operating conditions a misalignment of the beam in the dispersion _qwKFC  
direction on the entrance of the spectrometer by 500um would lead to a n@IpO i$Q  
signal reduction by more than 20% in an instrument with entrance slit _)AX/%^%
